Auburn’s receiver room could be one of, if not the deepest unit on the team in 2023.
Sure, the Tigers lost Shedrick Jackson to graduation and Dazarin Warsham to the transfer portal, but Hugh Freese brought in and established a legitimate passing scheme, and the fact that quarterback play only goes up from here. There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Auburn’s WR core.
The receiver depth chart for 2023 looks like this:
Z receiver
it’s moore
Moore was a solid transfer pickup for the Tigers and was second on the team in yards. He should step into a bigger role in the Z position.
Malcolm Johnson Jr.
Considering he only has two catches for 28 yards, there’s reason to believe Johnson should be more productive thanks to the new offensive system.
Omari Kelly
The freshman receiver had three catches for 58 yards.
H receiver
Javarius Johnson
There’s reason to believe Johnson will be in contention to become Auburn’s No. 1 receiver again in 2023. Freeze should be able to get him pretty open downfield after scoring his three touchdowns for nearly 500 yards in a system that struggled to make open looks. a bit.
Tar Wallish Dawson Jr.
speed. That’s what Dawson brought. We haven’t seen him in Auburn yet, but a more sophisticated passing attack should help him shine.
Jay Fair
Fair joins this pack of speedy, diminutive receivers, but it’s unclear if he’ll make much progress on the field after grabbing just two catches as a freshman. There is depth ahead of him.
× Receiver
camden brown
Now is the time for Camden Brown to shine in Philip Montgomery’s offense. He’s a tall, physical receiver that should allow the Tigers to create more consistency in the downfield passing game.
country king
After entering the transfer portal, the 6-foot-5 king returned. Copy and paste here – King needs more leverage in the passing game as Freeze has had success with taller hybrid TE/WR types.
Dacabius Slei
A true freshman receiver fits the “physical, hard-nosed” receiver type that Freeze can actually use. On the surface it is said to be acrobatic.
