Gabe Jeudy-Lally says goodbye to BYU after a year
“I want to thank everyone at BYU for welcoming me with open arms. Thank you for your love and support.Playing for LES is an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life.It was a short time but I will always remember the people and memories I had in Provo. This program is going well. I have no doubt they will continue to have momentum and success in the future.Having said that, I enter the transfer portal with my qualifications for the last two years. Thanks as always, Cougar Nation!”
A Vanderbilt graduate, Judy Larry started 10 games during his one season at BYU. The PFF rated Judy Larry as his second best defensive player by advanced metrics.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 185-pound defensive back finished in 2022 with 46 tackles and seven pass breakups.
Of all the transfer portal entries from BYU players for the 2023 cycle, Jeudy-Lally’s may be the most surprising. He was projected to be one of his top defensive players in his BYU first year in the Big 12 conference.
The Cougars have a new defensive coaching staff under the leadership of defensive coordinator Jay Hill. However, cornerback coach Giannalo Guilford remained on Hill’s staff. Gilford was his top recruiter when he acquired Jeudy-Lally from Portal last March.
BYU cornerback situation
Three of BYU’s top cornerbacks from the 2022 season are already gone. Kaleb Hayes and D’Angelo Mandell both ran out of college admissions.
Jakob Robinson is the top returning cornerback next season. Robinson moved around in his nickel spot, but was also in the top four at cornerback. Along with Robinson, BYU brought JUCO Jayden his Dunlap from Cerritos College.
Giannalo Guilford pointed to freshman Evan Johnson as an underclassman who did well during bowl practice leading up to the New Mexico Bowl.
The fall player transfer portal will close on January 18, 2023.
