BYU football player killed in construction accident

BYU offensive lineman Shione Beikoso died in a construction accident in Kailua, Hawaii, the team announced late Friday.

BYU Head Coach Kalani Shitake tweeted, “We are very saddened to learn of the tragic passing of one of our brothers, Sione Veikoso.” It is heartbreaking for all of us.We send our deepest condolences and prayers to his family and share their grief.Our love for you is eternal, Sione!”

Veikoso played high school football in Hawaii before serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After the stint, he spent the 2021 season with Arizona State, appearing in one game. Veikoso then moved to his BYU and in 2022 he spent the season with the Cougars, Utah where he appeared in his one game against Tech.

“The BYU football family mourns the loss of dear teammate and fellow Cougars Sione Veikoso,” BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmor said on Twitter. “May his family and friends feel our love and faith in this most sacred and difficult time. May they be at peace with you forever.
