keep up: College Football Transfer Portal Tracker for Top Players of 2023
The NCAA Transfer Portal is a private database containing the names of student-athletes in all sports at Division I, II, and III levels. The full list of names has not been published.
Players can enter their name into the Transfer Portal through their school’s compliance office. Once the player has given written notice of their intention to transfer, the Administration will register the player’s name in the database and formally transfer.
The Compliance Office has 48 hours to act on a player’s request, and NCAA rules prohibit it from denying the request.
The database contains information about the player’s name, contact information, whether the player has a scholarship, and whether he is a graduate student.
Once a player’s name appears in the Transfer Portal database, other schools are free to contact that player. Players can change their mind and leave the Transfer Portal at any point in the process.
In particular, once a player enters a portal, his school no longer has to honor the athletic scholarship they gave him. No need to give him another scholarship.
