HOUSTON (AP) – Braxton Harris has been named head coach of the Houston Christians, making him the second coach for the FCS program, known as Houston Baptiste until the name change in September.
Harris spent his final two seasons at Campbell, serving as associate head coach, linebacker coach and recruiting coordinator. The 38-year-old from Texas was head coach at Howard Payne in Brownwood, Texas from 2017 to his 2019.
HCU athletic director Steve Moniaci said when introducing Harris on Tuesday, the school is looking for a coach to revitalize the program and someone with strong ties to the Texas and Houston areas.
Vic Shealy stepped down on November 21 after a 2-9 season. He was hired as the school’s first coach in April 2012 and led the Huskies through his seven-game nurturing season in 2013.
