India team performance review meeting: The meeting has been on hold for too long. BCCI has decided to conduct a review following India’s exit from the ICC T20 World Cup semi-finals. However, as the Bangladesh tour meeting was postponed.
A shameful defeat at the hands of low-ranking Bangladesh in the ODI series has left BCCI even more alarmed.
The meeting comes two days before Team India start their home campaign in the T20 series against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. However, with the exception of Coach Dravid, none of the participants are involved in the series.
Who will attend the meeting?
- Coach Rahul Dravid and National Cricket Academy (NCA) Chief VVS Laxman will represent the support staff.
- Captain Rohit Sharma will be on the side of the team. Former captain Virat Kohli was also called to the meeting, but he is currently on vacation and unable to attend.
- The president of the selection committee, Chetan Sharma, was also convened.
- In addition to this BCCI BCCI Big-Wigs, including President Roger Binney and Secretary Jay Shah will be attending the REVIEW conference on Sunday.
WHAT IS DISCUSSED AT THE PERFORMANCE REVIEW MEETING? THE 5 POINT AGENDA ON THE CARD
Agenda Item 1: Captains, Coaches and Select Committee Chairs Explain Defeat: The first point of AGENDA is very clear. BCCI asks his captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid and chairman of the selection committee to explain the reasons for his Asian Cup and T20 World Cup defeats.
All three are filled separately.
Topic 2: Why are there so many casualties? In addition to captains, coaches and selectors, BCCI will speak to NCA Head VVS Laxman on this point. The agenda is to understand why so many injuries occur and how well they are managed.
Board President Vinny expressed concern over workload management and injuries to key players. As NCA chief, the former Indian batter will be asked to explain the cause of such injuries, which will also be reviewed by NCA staff.
Agenda item 3: Captain Seaway Forward: BCCI will formally take Rohit, Rahul and Laxman’s input in the process of moving forward on the captain issue. BCCI believes Rohit should be captain until the 2023 World Cup with ODI and Test.
Hardik Pandya is officially launched with the T20 World Cup in India up to 2024 in mind. It’s worth noting that Hardik will captain India against Sri Lanka in his T20 series. However, BCCI and Selectors have yet to announce him as his PERMANENT CAPTAIN.
The board has already handed him the vice-captain of the 50-over format.
Agenda Item 4 – How to phase out the elderly? There has also been talk of phasing out seniors from the T20 format. BCCI will take everyone’s input and formalize the senior citizen phase-out procedure.
Rohit, Virat, R.Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik, Mohd Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are also in their mid-thirties and BCCI may phase them out of whiteball cricket within the next 12 months.
Agenda 5 – Specialist T20 Coaches: As InsideSport previously reported, BCCI is very serious about appointing short-format specialist coaches. India has not won an ICC tournament since her 2013. The PERFORMANCE REVIEW Meeting was a clear signal and BCCI is determined to fix it next time.
