Matthew Jenkins steps down as Hough head football coach

— Matthew Jenkins has stepped down as Hough’s head football coach, he announced Tuesday afternoon. Jenkins has led the Hough program since 2017.

Over the past six seasons, Huff has won 63 and just 17 wins. Huff has reached at least four rounds in three of the last six years. Jenkins also served as head coach for Hopewell and offensive coordinator for Concord.

The news was announced by Hough in a statement posted on social media.

Hough opened in 2010. The Huskies have won 11 straight games since the 2012 season.

The next head football coach selected by principal David Farley and athletic director Lori DeMarcus is just the fourth in the school’s history.

Here is Jenkins’ statement:

I have been coaching my favorite sport for the past 31 years. It’s hard to leave, but it’s the right time for me personally and for Huff Football. I want to thank all the players and coaches who made this program possible. They were a true success for Huff Football.Thank you to the Huff School community for supporting our program. You made every day and game special!

I would also like to thank Dr. Rosenbach and Coach Toguchi for giving me the opportunity at Huff, as well as my current principal Mr. Farley and Athletic Director Lori DeMarcus for their continued support.

I am extremely proud of what the program has achieved over the past six years. Winning or losing is what most people judge us by, but it doesn’t define us. The number of players who have had the opportunity to continue playing at the college level shows the types of players I have been fortunate enough to coach. Finally, I heard the words of a great coach. I know they will succeed and I can’t wait to see these young men grow up.

I look forward to the next chapter of my career. Excited to spend her last two years of high school with them and become a father. Finally, I can’t thank my wife Lisa enough for her constant support over the last 20 years and letting me pursue my passion. I look forward to spending more time with you as we move into Empty Nest.

Go Husky! #howway
