STARKVILLE — Two days before the early contract period began, Mississippi State Football and new coach Zach Arnett lost his commitment.
Three-star offensive tackle Joe Crocker, who has a three-star outlook according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, announced his departure from MSU on Monday. He’s from Nashville and Franklin is a product of the Academy and moved to Mississippi in July.
“We would like to announce all the recent changes. We are officially opening recruitment,” Crocker wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank everyone at Mississippi State University for taking the time to hire me. After long discussions with my family, I decided that it was best for me. We are 100% open.”

Crocker’s decision comes a week after Mississippi State coach Mike Leach died unexpectedly from heart complications. Arnett, who has been MSU’s defensive coordinator since 2020, was promoted to head coach shortly after.

Wisconsin and Michigan were part of the top three before Crocker moved to Mississippi. The Bulldogs are down to 22 commitments for the 2023 class.
