Reynolds Jr. Named New Orem Football Head Coach

Salt Lake City – Orem Tigers offensive coordinator and former BYU offensive lineman Lance Reynolds Jr. has been named the next head coach of the Orem Tigers.

The move was first reported by Prep Coach Carousel via Twitter on Friday, Dec. 16.

The KSL Sports Rewind team has confirmed this report.

Orem are out of an 8-5 record in 2022. They have won nine state championships in the program’s history.

The Tigers’ final title came in 2020. This was the program’s fourth consecutive 5A state championship.

It was a streak that ended when the Tigers ended the 2021 season by giving up their second-last touchdown to Springville in the 5A Semifinals at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

About Lance Reynolds Jr.

The son of longtime BYU assistant coach and former Cougar lineman Lance Reynolds Sr., Reynolds Jr. played prep football for Timpview High from 2001-2005.

Reynolds Jr. then followed in his father’s footsteps at BYU.

His career at Lovell Edwards Stadium developed slowly as Reynolds Jr. saw snaps in just three games and zero starts in his first four years at Provo.

As a redshirt junior in 2004, Reynolds Jr. started 11 games for the Cougars and finished with a disappointing 5-6 record.

After earning Letterman honors as a junior, Reynolds Jr. was named the team’s Offensive Lineman of the Year and earned All-Mountain West Conference Second Team honors for his play as a senior.

The Lymington Trophy nominated was the centerpiece of the offensive line, averaging 306.3 yards, making it the 7th ranked unit in the nation. After his senior year, Reynolds Jr. was named one of the top 30 players of all positions in the Mountain West Conference by College Football News and was rated as the second best offensive lineman in the conference.

After not being selected in the 2005 NFL Draft, Reynolds Jr. signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He never played in an NFL game.

This will be Reynolds’ first head coaching job. He previously served as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator. Prior to working with Orem, Reynolds Jr. was on his staff coaching Pleasant Grove.

Lance Reynolds III was Orem’s starting quarterback last season.
